Accessibility
Bullion Hunters compares bullion prices across dealers. A price comparison is only useful if you can read it, so this site is built to work with a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification and no JavaScript. This page says what that means in practice, where the site still falls short, and how to tell us when you hit something that does not work.
Conformance status
We build to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA. The site is partially conformant: most of it meets that standard, and some parts of it do not yet. We have not had an independent audit, so this is our own assessment rather than a certified one, and the limitations further down are the ones we know about rather than a complete list.
What we do
- Colour contrast is measured, not eyeballed. Every text colour is checked against every background it is used on, and the build fails if any pair drops below the 4.5:1 the standard asks for. Several colours in our own brand palette were darkened to pass.
- Everything works from the keyboard. A “skip to content” link opens every page, focus is always visible, menus and panels close on Escape and return focus where they found it, and tables that scroll sideways can be scrolled without a mouse.
- Pages work without JavaScript. Sorting, filtering, quantity and paging are ordinary links and form submissions, so the site is usable if scripts fail or are blocked.
- Prices are readable, not just visible. A rise or fall is never shown by colour alone — the figure carries a sign — and the live price bar does not interrupt a screen reader while you are reading something else.
- Forms say what went wrong. Every field has a label, errors are tied to the field they belong to and announced rather than only coloured, and the fields that ask for your own details support autofill.
- Motion respects your settings. If your device asks for reduced motion, animation is switched off.
- It is checked automatically on every change. Accessibility rules run in our linter and automated accessibility tests run in our test suite, so a regression fails the build rather than waiting for someone to notice.
Where we fall short
These are known and unresolved. We would rather list them than imply they are not there.
- Advertising. Ads are served by Google AdSense, which builds its own markup inside the page. We control where an ad sits and whether it loads; we do not control what is inside it.
- Price charts. The interactive charts are provided by TradingView and embedded as their own widget. The same applies: the embedding is ours, the contents are not. The underlying prices are also published as text elsewhere on the site.
- Articles and guides. Editorial content is written in our content system. Headings, image descriptions and link wording in an individual article depend on the person who wrote it, and older articles have not all been reviewed.
- Dealer websites. Every “buy” link leaves this site for a dealer we do not own or operate. We cannot speak for the accessibility of anything past that link.
- Automated testing is a floor, not a pass. Automated tools find only some accessibility problems. The rest need a person, and our testing with assistive technology is not yet as thorough as our automated testing.
