Comic Art Meets Numismatics at the ANA World’s Fair of Money
The U.S. Mint turned heads at the 2025 American Numismatic Association (ANA) World’s Fair of Money® in Oklahoma City with the reveal of two new designs in its Comic Art Coin and Medal Program: Batman™ and Wonder Woman™. This program blends iconic DC Super Heroes™ with fine numismatic craftsmanship, redefining how modern collectibles celebrate both art and culture.
From Superman™ to a Growing Legacy
The initiative launched in July 2025 with Superman™, whose debut struck a chord with collectors and comic enthusiasts alike. His popularity underscored the Mint’s vision to unite generations through the shared language of history, artistry, and imagination.
Kristie McNally, Acting Director of the Mint, described the program as “more than a celebration of comic book heroes - it’s a tribute to the enduring power of storytelling.”
Backing that vision is Chief Engraver Joseph F. Menna, an internationally recognized sculptor with more than three decades of experience. Menna’s expertise ensures each release carries both artistic weight and technical precision, solidifying the series as a standout in U.S. Mint history.
Batman™ Launches September 25, 2025
The Caped Crusader arrives next as the second installment of the series, with designs capturing his courage, intellect, and determination.
- Obverse: Batman™ vaults into action above Gotham City, while a carved stone eagle rises behind him bearing the inscription “LIBERTY.”
- Reverse: Against the city skyline, the Bat-Signal pierces the night sky as Batman™ stands ready for justice.
These works, designed and sculpted by Menna, will appear across multiple formats: ½ oz 24K gold proof coins, 2.5 oz silver medals, and 1 oz silver medals. His official release date is September 25, 2025.
Wonder Woman™ Joins the Series in Fall 2025
Later in the year, Wonder Woman™ will make her debut as the third entry in the program, bringing her message of justice, peace, and empowerment.
- Obverse: Wonder Woman™ strides forward with her shield and Lasso of Truth, set against flag-inspired stripes that nod to her World War II origins.
- Reverse: She is depicted alongside three soaring doves above Earth, symbolizing equality and harmony.
This design, created by Phebe Hemphill and engraved by Menna, reinforces Wonder Woman’s™ place as a cultural icon. Like Batman™, she will be featured on ½ oz 24K gold proof coins, 2.5 oz silver medals, and 1 oz silver medals.
More Heroes Coming in 2026 and 2027
The Mint has confirmed six additional Super Heroes™ slated to continue the series:
2026:
- Supergirl™: A heroine of resilience and heart, embodying both compassion and strength.
- Robin™: A quick-thinking partner in justice, symbolizing loyalty and youthful courage.
- Green Lantern™: A beacon of willpower, wielding imagination as his ultimate weapon.
2027:
- The Flash™: Optimism and determination define the fastest hero alive.
- Batgirl™: Intelligent and fearless, she combines strategy with swift action.
- Aquaman™: Defender of the oceans, embodying bravery and leadership both above and below the waves.
