About this product

Step into the rich world of Mesoamerican history with the stunning 1 oz Copper Aztec Calendar Round, struck in .999 fine copper. This intricately designed round pays tribute to the Aztec Sun Stone, one of the most iconic and mysterious symbols of ancient Mexico, combining cultural heritage with affordable collectibility.

The design draws inspiration from the Aztec Sun Stone, a monumental carved basalt artifact unearthed in 1790 in Mexico City. Believed to have been crafted during the rule of Emperor Moctezuma II, this stone embodies the Aztec civilization’s deep knowledge of time, the cosmos, and spiritual forces. At its center is a depiction thought to be Tonatiuh, the sun deity, encircled by elaborate symbols that illustrate Aztec deities, calendar days, and the cosmic cycles that structured their view of the universe.

Round Specifications:

  • Contains 1 AVDP oz (28.35 grams) of .999 copper
  • New Condition
  • Produced by Golden State Mint
  • Obverse: Displays the Aztec Calendar. The circular design of the Aztec Calendar symbolizes the sun, with its rays originating outwards. In the center of the circle is Tonatiuh, who is the Aztec solar deity known as the “sunstone”. In Tonatiuh’s clawed hands, he holds two human hearts, and a sacrificial stone blade portrays his tongue. Around him features a ring of 20 symbols representing the 20 days of the Aztec month with four scrolled arrows pointed in each cardinal direction
  • Reverse: The reverse is a portrait of the last Aztec Emperor of Tenochtitlan, Cuauhtémoc. Cuauhtémoc wears ear ornaments and a traditional headdress, worn by many of the Aztec elites of the time. The reverse also features inscriptions of his name as well as the metal content, weight, and purity of the round
Whether you're fascinated by ancient cultures, love detailed coin art, or simply looking to stack copper affordably, this piece delivers impressive visual impact and historical resonance.
