About this product
Issued by the United States Mint from 1997 through 2008, the fractional 1/10 oz Proof Platinum American Eagle is a key release in official U.S. sovereign bullion history. Struck in .9995 fine platinum, these proof coins were minted with mirror-like fields and frosted, deeply sculpted devices. Each coin carries a legal tender face value of $10 USD and comes protected in a protective acrylic coin capsule. Available as a Random Year offering, each piece provides a cost-effective way to acquire highly sought-after, low-mintage U.S. Mint proof platinum.
Authorized by Congress in 1996 and first released in 1997, the Platinum American Eagle was designed to expand the U.S. Mint’s flagship Eagle program beyond gold and silver. While 1 oz proof versions continue to be produced today, the Mint discontinued all fractional proof sizes (1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz) in late 2008 due to changing demand and rising production costs. Because the 1/10 oz Proof Platinum Eagle was only produced for a 12-year window (1997–2008) with strict annual mintage caps, it remains a scarce, historically significant fractional collectible.
