History & Significance: The California Gold Rush
On January 24, 1848, James W. Marshall discovered gold at Sutter’s Mill in Coloma, California, setting off one of the greatest mass migrations in American history. Over 300,000 fortune seekers—known as "Forty-Niners"—flocked to the territory from around the world. This sudden population boom rapidly transformed California from a quiet territory into the 31st U.S. state by 1850. The 1 California Goldback pays homage to this monumental era, capturing both the hard work of early prospectors and the enduring allure of physical gold.
Blending 1/1000 troy ounce of 24K gold with durable polymer technology and Gold Rush history, the 1 California Goldback 24K Gold Foil Note is an accessible, versatile piece for precious metal stackers and barter enthusiasts. Because individual notes and 100-note bundles carry fluctuating dealer markups across distributors, using Bullion Hunters allows you to instantly compare live inventory, evaluate tier-based payment discounts, and secure the lowest price online.
