Invest in the $10 Face Value 1964 Kennedy Half Dollars 90% Silver 20-Coin Roll (Uncirculated)
Discover the allure and historical significance of the 1964 Silver Kennedy Half Dollars. These coins were issued to memorialize the slain leader, John F. Kennedy, and have remained extremely popular even today. Designed by the US Mint's chief engraver, Gilroy Roberts, and his assistant engraver, Frank Gasparro, these coins hold a special place in American history.
The 1964 Silver Kennedy Half Dollars are available in a 20-coin roll with a face value of $10 in total. Each coin is made from 90% fine silver, weighing 0.3617 troy oz. They come in Uncirculated Condition, ensuring their pristine quality. All coins in the roll were minted in 1964 and are housed in a clear protective plastic roll.
The obverse of the coin features a left-facing handsome portrait of John F. Kennedy, with inscriptions of "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the year of mintage (1964). The reverse showcases an adaptation of the Presidential Seal, depicting an eagle with its wings widespread upholding a striped shield, along with an olive branch and bundle of arrows in its talons. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "HALF DOLLAR," and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
On November 22, 1963, America lost President John F. Kennedy in a tragic assassination. In honor of his memory, the US Mint quickly decided to create a new coin. Gilroy Roberts, the chief engraver, was tasked with designing the obverse, while Frank Gasparro, his assistant engraver, designed the reverse.
The half dollar denomination was chosen at the request of Jacqueline Kennedy, who did not want to replace George Washington on the quarter dollar.
To introduce the new coin, a congressional act was required due to a law stating that a coin must serve for up to 25 years before it can be replaced without congressional approval. The Kennedy Half Dollar bill was passed on December 30, 1963, and the first coins were struck in early 1964.
Investing in the 1964 Silver Kennedy Half Dollars offers both collectors and investors a unique opportunity. These coins hold historical significance and are made from 90% fine silver, making them a valuable addition to any portfolio.
