The 2017 1.5 oz silver Grizzly Bear is a Brilliant Uncirculated coin from the Royal Canadian Mint, struck from one and a half troy ounces of .9999 fine silver with a face value of 8 Canadian dollars. The reverse shows a grizzly standing with its mouth open in a roar. The obverse carries Susanna Blunt's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
From the Wildlife Series to 1.5 Ounces
The Royal Canadian Mint's original Wildlife Series ran from 2011 to 2013 with six 1 oz designs featuring the wolf, grizzly bear, cougar, moose, antelope and wood bison. Later releases carried the wildlife theme into the 1.5 oz format, and this 2017 coin revisits the grizzly, which had also appeared in the 1 oz series. Around the bear are the weight, purity and year. The obverse pairs Queen Elizabeth II with the 8 dollar denomination.
