2018-W Proof Palladium Eagle in Perfect PF 70, Early Releases
At the top of the Proof grading scale, the 2018-W Palladium Eagle NGC PF 70 ER is the first-year proof $25 American Eagle, one troy ounce of .9995 fine palladium from the U.S. Mint, certified by NGC. PF 70 means no imperfections are visible under 5x magnification. The Early Releases (ER) designation shows NGC received the coin within its early-release window, generally within 30 days of the coin's release.
What PF 70 and Early Releases Add
Grading takes the proof coin and seals it in an NGC holder whose label lists the grade and the Early Releases designation. A 70 is the ceiling of the Sheldon scale, and the ER label ties the coin to its first weeks on the market. The coin itself carries Adolph Weinman's artwork, with the Winged Liberty portrait adapted from the 1916 Mercury dime on one side and an eagle gripping a laurel branch on a rock on the other. It is a 2018 proof, the first year the Mint offered the Palladium Eagle in proof.

Graded Proof Pricing, Dealer by Dealer
For a certified PF 70 coin, the palladium value is only part of the price. Dealers add a premium for the perfect grade and the Early Releases label, and those premiums vary more than for raw coins. Frequently Asked Questions
What does Early Releases mean on an NGC PF 70 Palladium Eagle?
Early Releases is an NGC designation for coins it received within the early-release window, generally the first 30 days after the coin came out. It identifies timing only, and the coin and its palladium content match other 2018-W proofs.
Why does a PF 70 ER Palladium Eagle cost more than an ungraded one?
Both start from the spot price of palladium. The graded coin adds a premium for certification, the perfect grade and the label, and dealers set that premium independently. Comparing their published prices shows how wide the difference runs.
