About this product
Closing the Zodiac Cycle: Perth Mint's 2019 Half-Ounce Gold Pig
The 2019 1/2 oz gold Lunar Pig is a Perth Mint coin struck from half a troy ounce of .9999 fine gold in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, delivered in a protective capsule with a $50 AUD face value. It belongs to the Perth Mint's Lunar Series II, and the Pig is the twelfth and final animal of the Chinese zodiac. BU means the coin has never circulated and keeps its original mint luster.
A Pig Beneath the Peony
The Perth Mint's first gold Lunar series ran from 1996 to 2007, and Lunar Series II began in 2008 with the Year of the Mouse. Each annual coin depicts that year's zodiac animal. On this reverse, a domestic pig stands in a field of rocks and foliage under a peony, often called the king of flowers, with the Chinese character for pig nearby and the words Year of the Pig at the base. The obverse carries Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Queen Elizabeth II with the year, denomination, weight and purity.

Tracking Premiums on the 2019 Gold Pig
Lunar coins often carry a design premium on top of the spot price of gold, and the size of that premium is set by each dealer, sometimes with smaller per-coin markups at higher quantities. Bullion Hunters lists the published prices together so the gaps are easy to spot. You can also browse gold coins for sale or our 1/2 oz gold coins.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which Perth Mint Lunar series is the 2019 gold Pig part of?
It is part of Lunar Series II, which the Perth Mint began in 2008 with the Year of the Mouse. The Pig is the last animal in the twelve-year zodiac cycle, so the 2019 issue completes that sequence.
What determines the price of a 2019 1/2 oz gold Lunar Pig?
The gold content valued at the current spot price forms the base, and the dealer adds a premium covering minting, the Lunar design and its own margin. Premiums and quantity tiers vary, so compare the published prices before deciding.
