Early-Release 2019 Quarter-Ounce Eagle in a PCGS MS 70 Holder
The 2019 1/4 oz Gold Eagle First Strike is a U.S. Mint bullion coin with a quarter troy ounce of .9167 fine gold and a $10 face value, graded MS 70 by PCGS. The First Strike label means PCGS received the coin within its early-release window, generally the first 30 days of issue. That label, together with a perfect Mint State grade, separates it from an ordinary 2019 quarter-ounce Eagle.
A Design Rooted in the 1907 Double Eagle
The obverse traces back to Augustus Saint-Gaudens' 1907 $20 double eagle. Liberty strides forward with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, the Capitol and rising sun behind her, with LIBERTY and the year above. The reverse, designed by Miley Busiek, shows a male eagle hovering over a nest where his mate and their young wait. The U.S. Mint used this pairing from the program's 1986 launch until the 2021 redesign.

How First Strike Labels Affect Dealer Pricing
Dealers may charge more for a First Strike label than for a plain MS 70 holder, but the size of that extra premium over the spot price of gold is their call. Bullion Hunters shows each published price, quantity tier and buyback figure together. Browse further american gold eagle options or our 1/4 oz gold coins.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does First Strike mean on a PCGS Gold Eagle?
First Strike is a PCGS designation for coins the grading service received within its early-release window, generally the first 30 days after release. The label refers to submission timing, and the coin itself is struck the same way as others of that year.
What goes into the price of a 2019 1/4 oz Gold Eagle PCGS MS 70 First Strike?
Dealers combine the spot value of the quarter ounce of gold with a premium for the MS 70 grade, the First Strike label and their own costs. The premium varies by seller and quantity, so a side-by-side price comparison is useful.
