Forty Years of Pandas: The 2022 8 Gram Gold Panda With Anniversary Privy
The 2022 8 gram Chinese Gold Panda is a .999 fine gold coin with a face value of 100 yuan, struck in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and sealed in plastic. What sets the 2022 issue apart is a privy mark, a small added symbol, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Gold Panda series. The reverse shows two young pandas playing together in the snow.
From Ounces to Grams Since 1982
The People's Bank of China launched the Gold Panda in 1982 in ounce sizes, and in 2016 switched the series to metric weights such as 1, 3, 8, 15 and 30 grams. The panda design changes every year, which keeps collectors following each new release. For 2022, the 40th anniversary privy appears at the lower left of the reverse. The obverse shows the Temple of Heaven in Beijing with Chinese characters for People's Republic of China and the year. The maximum mintage for this size was set at 250,000.
