About this product

A Mythical Tudor Beast Struck in Quarter-Ounce Gold

The 2023 1/4 oz Yale of Beaufort gold coin is a British Royal Mint issue from the Tudor Beasts series, containing a quarter troy ounce of .9999 fine gold in Brilliant Uncirculated condition with a 25 pound face value. Designed by David Lawrence, it depicts the yale, a mythical creature linked to Lady Margaret Beaufort, mother of King Henry VII.

The Beasts of Hampton Court

The Tudor dynasty ruled England from 1485 to 1603. At Hampton Court Palace, one of Henry VIII's most famous residences, ten stone beasts line the Moat Bridge, real and mythical creatures representing the ancestry of Henry VIII and his third wife, Jane Seymour. The Royal Mint's Tudor Beasts series brings those figures to coins. This reverse shows the Yale of Beaufort against a textured background that adds security, inscribed YALE OF BEAUFORT with the weight, fineness and 2023 date. The obverse carries Jody Clark's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the Yale of Beaufort on this 2023 gold coin?

The yale is a mythical beast that represents Lady Margaret Beaufort, mother of Henry VII. It is one of the ten stone beasts on the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace that inspired the Royal Mint's Tudor Beasts series.

How is the 1/4 oz Yale of Beaufort gold coin priced?

Its price combines the spot value of a quarter ounce of gold with a dealer premium for the series design and distribution. Premiums vary by seller and quantity, so viewing several published prices together gives a fair comparison.
