The 2024 Flowing Hair proof gold coin is a one troy ounce, .9999 fine (24 karat) gold coin from the US Mint with a proof finish and a $1 face value. It marks the 230th anniversary of the 1794 Flowing Hair dollar, the first silver dollar struck by the United States, and comes encapsulated in a US Mint presentation box with a certificate of authenticity.
Reviving the 1794 Design
The obverse recreates the original 1794 portrait of Liberty with flowing hair, ringed by 15 stars for the states of that period. The reverse shows an eagle with spread wings inside a wreath, an early version of the eagle motifs found on later U.S. coins. Following the original coin, the edge is lettered HUNDRED CENTS ONE DOLLAR OR UNIT. Striking this historic silver design in fine gold gives collectors a modern companion to one of the country's earliest coins.
