As the smallest size in the program, the 2024 1/10 oz Gold Krugerrand offers an easy entry into the world's first modern gold bullion coin. The South African Mint strikes it in 22-karat (91.67%) gold, and it contains 1/10 troy ounce of actual gold weight, about 3.11 grams. It arrives in a plastic flip in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition, the standard for fresh, uncirculated bullion strikes.

A Short History of the Krugerrand

Introduced in 1967, the Krugerrand was the world's first modern gold bullion coin, and by 1980 it accounted for most of the international gold coin market. Its name combines Paul Kruger, South Africa's former president, with the rand, the national currency. The obverse shows Kruger's portrait, while the reverse features the springbok antelope. Because 22-karat gold includes a small share of alloy, the coin weighs a little more than its 1/10 oz gold content.
