A Legacy of Excellence

Founded in 1817, Johnson Matthey grew into one of the most respected names in the precious metals industry. In 1851, the firm was appointed official assayer and refiner to the Bank of England, cementing its reputation for integrity and precision. While Asahi Holdings acquired Johnson Matthey’s refining operations in 2015, original JM-marked vintage bars—particularly those stamped “SLC” or “Canada”—remain highly prized by investors and collectors for their scarcity and history.
