The inaugural release featured 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz coins, making the program accessible to both large-scale investors and collectors with modest budgets. In 1983, the series expanded with a 1/20 oz coin, while later years introduced larger formats such as 5 oz and 12 oz Gold Pandas, solidifying the series as one of the most versatile bullion programs in the world.
One of the defining characteristics of the Gold Panda is its annually changing reverse design, featuring China’s iconic giant panda. Revered as a cultural symbol of peace, harmony, and friendship, the panda provides each year’s coin with unique artistic appeal. The only exceptions to this tradition occurred in 2001 and 2002, when the same design was repeated. Today, earlier issues are especially sought-after due to their historic significance and collectible rarity.
