Half Sovereigns From the Short Reign of Edward VII
The Edward VII gold half sovereign is a British gold coin dated between 1902 and 1910, containing 0.1177 troy ounces of .9167 fine (22 karat) gold. It comes in average circulated condition with normal wear, and the date and mint mark are chosen at random. These coins were struck at the Royal Mint and at its branch mints overseas.
Pistrucci's St. George and the Edwardian Portrait
The half sovereign denomination was first struck in 1544 under Henry VIII. Coins dated 1902 to 1910 carry Edward VII, the eldest son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, who succeeded his mother in January 1901. His right-facing portrait by G.W. De Saulles is ringed by a Latin legend naming him king and Emperor of India. The reverse shows Benedetto Pistrucci's St. George on horseback slaying the dragon, marked with the initials B.P. and the date.

How Half Sovereign Prices Compare
Half sovereigns are priced from the gold value of 0.1177 troy ounces plus a premium for age and condition. Dealers each set that premium, and quantity can lower it. Bullion Hunters shows published offers together, so you can compare this coin with a full gold sovereign or browse our wider gold bullion selection.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much gold is in an Edward VII half sovereign?
Each coin contains 0.1177 troy ounces of .9167 fine gold, about 3.66 grams. That is half the gold found in a full sovereign of the same standard.
How is the price of a 1902-1910 half sovereign determined?
The base is its gold content at the current spot price. Dealers add a premium for the coin's age, the Edward VII portrait and its condition, and that premium varies by seller and by quantity, so look at the published prices.
