Cleaned Indian Head Quarter Eagle: Pre-1933 Gold at a Lower Premium
A cleaned Indian Head quarter eagle offers the same classic design and gold content as problem-free examples, usually at a lower premium. These coins have been polished or cleaned, which affects their surfaces but not the 0.12094 troy ounces of gold they contain in a .900 fine alloy. The premium is the amount charged above the gold spot price. Each coin carries a $2.50 face value, and the year is random.
One of Only Two Incuse U.S. Coins
Boston sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt designed this coin, and it was minted from 1908 to 1929. It is one of only two U.S. issues with an incuse design, where the details are sunk below the surface. The obverse features a Native American in a headdress with 13 stars, LIBERTY, and the date. The reverse shows an eagle on a bundle of arrows holding an olive branch, with the denomination 2 1/2 DOLLARS. Even after polishing or cleaning, the coin still shows Pratt's distinctive design.
