About this product
Designed by Chief Engraver Christian Gobrecht and struck continuously from 1840 through 1907, the $2.50 Liberty Head Gold Quarter Eagle is one of the longest-running design series in United States Mint history. Minted in 90% fine gold, this historic coin offers the perfect blend of numismatic appeal, tangible bullion value, and 19th-century American heritage.
Spanning nearly seven decades of American growth—from the California Gold Rush through the Civil War and into the early 20th century—the Liberty Head Quarter Eagle holds a special place in numismatic lore. Remarkably, while other gold denominations added the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" following the Civil War in 1866, the Quarter Eagle's small 18mm diameter left no room for the addition. As a result, the Liberty Head $2.50 piece stands as the only U.S. gold coin design produced for over 60 years completely unchanged. Today, Pre-1933 gold coins like the Liberty Quarter Eagle remain prized by stackers because they are private, non-collectible by government recall orders, and carry intrinsic gold value combined with historical scarcity.
