Type 1 Farewell: 2021 Silver Eagle in PCGS MS 69 First Strike
This 2021 Silver Eagle MS 69 First Strike coin is a one troy ounce, .999 fine silver American Eagle graded Mint State 69 by PCGS and housed with an American flag label. It carries the original heraldic eagle reverse, making it one of the last Silver Eagles with that design before the 2021 redesign. First Strike means PCGS received the coin within its early-release window, generally the first 30 days of release.
The End of the Mercanti Reverse
From 1986 into 2021, every Silver Eagle carried John Mercanti's heraldic eagle reverse, with a shield, 13 stars, an olive branch and arrows. To mark the program's 35th anniversary, the U.S. Mint introduced a new reverse in 2021, so early 2021 coins like this one closed out the first design. The obverse kept Adolph A. Weinman's Walking Liberty, adapted from the 1916-1947 half dollar. An MS 69 grade means only minor flaws are visible under magnification.

MS 69 Versus MS 70 Pricing
An MS 69 coin usually carries a smaller grading premium than an MS 70 of the same year, while still adding cost over the silver spot price. Dealers set those premiums independently, so comparing published prices for this exact grade and label matters. See other silver eagle grades, or browse U.S. silver coins.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this 2021 PCGS MS 69 Silver Eagle a Type 1 or Type 2?

How is a 2021 PCGS MS 69 First Strike Silver Eagle priced?
Dealers start from the spot price of one ounce of silver and add a premium for the Type 1 design, the MS 69 grade and the First Strike flag label. Those premiums vary, so compare published prices.
