About this product
Recreating America's First Silver Dollar for Its 230th Anniversary
The 2024 Flowing Hair silver medal is a one troy ounce, .999 fine silver medal from the U.S. Mint that recreates the 1794 Flowing Hair dollar, the first silver dollar issued by the United States. It was struck at Philadelphia in an uncirculated finish to mark the design's 230th anniversary. As a medal, it carries no face value. Each one comes in a presentation box with a certificate of authenticity.
The 1794 Flowing Hair Dollar, Re-sculpted
Mint medallic artists re-sculpted both sides of the 1794 dollar for this medal, staying close to the original features. The obverse shows Liberty with loose, flowing hair, ringed by 15 stars. The reverse features an eagle with spread wings encircled by a wreath, an early forerunner of the eagles that later appeared on U.S. coinage. A separate version of this medal carries a special 230 privy mark, while this standard version comes boxed with its certificate.
