The $5 Gold Half Eagle Liberty Head is a coin of the United States that was produced for circulation from 1795-­1929. This was the first gold coin to be issued by the United States in 1795 after being authorized by the Act of April 1792. Half Eagles come in a variety of different designs since being issued in 1795 as the design got constantly upgraded. The Liberty Head design came into being in 1839 and had been issued until 1908. This design was more refined and intricate than all the previous Half Eagle designs. The value which had been 5 D since the beginning up until that time was changed to "FIVE D" in this new Liberty Head design.

The Liberty Head is distinct because this was the only US coin, a single design, which was being produced at 7 different US Mint facilities which are Philadelphia, Dahlonega, New Orleans, Charlotte, Denver, San Francisco, and Carson City. Those coins which were struck at Philadelphia with no silver alloy in them using .900 gold and .100 copper instead. However, those coins minted at southern branch mints of Dahlonega and Charlotte had a high natural silver content.

The Half Eagle Liberty Head Gold coin has a face value of $5 which was the coin’s approximate worth in gold when it was first produced, but now its intrinsic value is much higher than its face value.

The Liberty Head graces the obverse of the coin. It is a design by Mint engraver Christian Gobrecht, who had a strong influence by neoclassicism. The Liberty Head is also known as Coronet Head. The reverse of the coin had been almost the same since the beginning and is greatly influenced by the Great Seal of The United States.

• Reverse: Features a heraldic eagle with a shield on its breast and holding olive branches and arrows in its talons, design inspired from the Great Seal of United States. A banner above the eagle with the words “IN GOD WE TRUST” written across. Inscriptions - “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “FIVE D.”
• U.S. Mint issue from the following mints: Philadelphia, Carson City, Charlotte, Dahlonega, Denver, New Orleans or San Francisco.
