The New 2021 Reverse, Graded NGC MS 70 First Day of Issue
The 2021 Type 2 Silver Eagle NGC MS 70 FDOI is a one troy ounce, .999 fine silver American Eagle bearing the redesigned reverse introduced in 2021, graded a perfect Mint State 70 by NGC with a First Day of Issue label. Type 2 coins added a reeded edge variation, a small gap in the edge reeding that serves as an anti-counterfeiting feature.
A Fresh Eagle for the 35th Anniversary
For the program's 35th anniversary, the U.S. Mint replaced the heraldic reverse with Emily Damstra's design of a bald eagle coming in to land with an oak branch in its talons. Inscriptions around it read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, the weight, purity and denomination. The obverse Walking Liberty was refreshed at the same time, bringing back Weinman's initials, the original date style and finer details in Liberty's eye, bonnet, flag and the sun's rays. NGC's FDOI label ties this coin to the release day of the new design.

How Type 2 FDOI Prices Line Up
Price starts at the silver spot value, then adds a premium for the Type 2 design, the perfect NGC grade and the FDOI label. Dealers weigh those factors differently, so their published prices can be far apart. Compare offers here, see other silver eagle grades, or browse U.S. silver coins.
Frequently Asked Questions
