Twenty 2009 Silver Eagles With John Mercanti's Heraldic Reverse
A 2009 Silver Eagle roll of 20 holds twenty one-ounce American Eagle coins, each struck by the U.S. Mint in .999 fine silver and supplied in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, for 20 troy ounces of silver in total. The coins come stacked in a single tube. Because they date from 2009, every coin carries John Mercanti's heraldic eagle reverse, the design used before the 2021 change.
The Heraldic Eagle Design
John Mercanti's reverse places a heraldic eagle behind a shield, with 13 stars above its head for the original colonies. The eagle holds an olive branch and arrows, and a banner in its beak reads E PLURIBUS UNUM. The weight and the ONE DOLLAR denomination run around the edge of the design. On the obverse, Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty appears with LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST. Brilliant Uncirculated means the coins keep their original mint luster with no circulation wear.

Comparing 2009 Roll Prices
Rolls are priced at the spot price of silver plus a premium, the dealer's markup over the metal value, and a specific older date like 2009 can carry a different premium from current-year coins. Bullion Hunters lists dealer prices and quantity tiers next to each other. Check other silver eagle years, or browse all U.S. silver coins we track.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much silver is in a 2009 Silver Eagle roll of 20?
Each of the 20 coins contains one troy ounce of .999 fine silver, about 31.1 grams, so a full roll holds 20 troy ounces of silver, roughly 622 grams.
How do dealers set the price of a 2009 Silver Eagle roll?
They take the spot price of silver for the 20 ounces in the roll and add a premium for the coins and the 2009 date. Premiums vary by dealer and can change at higher quantity tiers, which a price comparison makes clear.
