About this product

The 2012 Silver Eagle Roll and the Original Reverse

A 2012 Silver Eagle roll of 20 is a tube of twenty Brilliant Uncirculated American Eagles, each with one troy ounce of .999 fine silver and a $1 face value, struck by the U.S. Mint. The 2012 coins predate the 2021 reverse redesign, so all twenty show the heraldic eagle reverse that ran from the start of the series.

Before the 2021 Redesign

From 1986 until 2021, every Silver Eagle carried John Mercanti's heraldic eagle, a bald eagle with spread wings, a shield, arrows and an olive branch, with 13 stars above. In 2021 the Mint replaced it with a new reverse that also added anti-counterfeiting features. That places 2012 coins in the long first run of the design, often called Type 1. Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty obverse was kept for both reverses, with minor detail refinements in 2021.

Comparing Dealer Quotes on a 2012 Roll

Silver Eagle rolls track the spot price of silver, with a premium on top that changes from dealer to dealer. Bullion Hunters collects published prices, quantity breaks and buyback quotes so you can compare them directly. Look at the wider silver eagle range, or move over to U.S. silver coins for other options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a 2012 Silver Eagle have the old or new reverse?

It has the original reverse. John Mercanti's heraldic eagle appeared on Silver Eagles from 1986 until the 2021 redesign, so every coin in a 2012 roll shows that design.

How is the price of a 2012 Silver Eagle roll calculated?

Dealers start with the spot value of 20 ounces of silver, then add a premium per coin. That premium varies by dealer and quantity, so a side-by-side look at published prices is the simplest way to compare.
